In the silent era, the actor was employed in the theatre, with film roles as a supporting actor however, with the advent audio, he staged an appearance on the big screen in the comedy written by Florian Rey. In the 1930s, he appeared in a number of films like?Cuando you are suicidal? (1931) produced by Manuel Romero, La bien pagada (1935) by Eusebio Fernandez Ardavin orEl bailarin and the Trabajador (1935) produced by Luis Marquina and based on the play written by Jacinto Benavente. In the 1940s he gained great popularity in films such as Te quiero para mi (1944) and El testamento del virrey (1944), both directed by Ladislao Vajda; Ella, el y sus millones (1944) by Juan de Orduna; El fantasma y dona Juanita (1945) by Rafael Gil and Pacto de silencio (1949), by Antonio Roman.
The films he’s known for are in his time in the 1950s, and into 1960s in classics by Luis Garcia-Berlanga. Hello Mr. Marshall! (1953) Los jueves, milagro(1957) and El verdugo (1963) and his dark-comedy masterpiece El cochecito written by Marco Ferreri. All of them were directed by Rafael Azcona. Azcona was the grandpa for his Spanish film classic La gran familia (1962) as well as it’s successor La gran familia.
.. and a single mas (1965) These films gaining him even more fame. Pepe Isbert passed away from Madrid because of a heart problem at the age of 80 old. He was laid to rest at Tarazona de la Mancha cemetery in the province of Albacete.
